Анна Ярмолюк

b. 1977

Anna Yarmoliuk is a Ukrainian self-taught painter born in 1977, reported to live in Kharkiv and to work as a librarian. She paints small naive-art scenes in oil pastel on paper and cardboard — snowy streets, wooded roads, women and children walking with dogs — with a warm, lyrical view of unhurried small-town life.

Anna Yarmoliuk, born in 1977, is a Ukrainian artist who works almost exclusively in oil pastel on paper and cardboard. She is self-taught: contemporary write-ups describe her as a librarian by profession from Kharkiv who had drawn all her life but only began working seriously as a painter around 2010. Her subjects are deliberately modest and domestic — a bakery on the corner, two windows on a second floor, an alley, a frosty Monday, an old woman walking her dog down a snowy street, two figures and a dog in a spring wood where bird cherry is in flower. Critics writing about her have picked out the positivity and lyricism of the work and its picture of small towns with a slow rhythm and a happy childhood, presenting ordinary people and ordinary things in a way that makes them unfamiliar again. Formally her work is classed as naive art: flattened space, simplified figures, and the rich saturated texture that oil pastel allows, used to hold an intimate and serene mood. Her documented catalogue on ArtMajeur consists of small formats, mostly between 20 × 25 cm and 35 × 50 cm, dated between 2012 and 2014, most of which are marked not for sale as originals and offered instead under licence. She maintains an active presence on Instagram (@annayarmoliuk) and Facebook. She has no museum representation or union membership that could be verified, and her paintings are titled in Russian rather than Ukrainian.
